Project 1: Denim Tote Bag EASY

1 Prepare the Jeans

Turn jeans inside out and cut off the legs at the crotch seam. You'll be left with the seat/back portion. Cut along the inner leg seams to create two large rectangles of denim.

2 Cut the Panels

From your denim rectangles, cut: - Two pieces for the front/back (14" x 16") - Two pieces for the sides (6" x 16") - Two pieces for the bottom (6" x 14") - Two long strips for handles (4" x 24")

3 Assemble the Bag

Sew the side panels to the front/back panels (right sides together). Attach the bottom panel to create the bag shape. Fold and sew the top edge to create a casing for the handles.

4 Add Handles

Fold handle strips in half lengthwise and sew. Thread through the casing at the top of the bag. Sew handles securely in place.

Project 2: Denim Coasters VERY EASY

1 Cut Squares

Cut denim into 4-inch squares. You'll need 2 squares per coaster (for thickness).

2 Layer and Sew

Place two squares right sides together and sew around three sides. Turn right side out and press.

3 Finish

Topstitch around all four sides to close the opening and add durability. Make a set of 4-6 coasters.

Project 3: Denim Pillow Covers INTERMEDIATE

1 Measure and Cut

Measure your pillow insert. Add 1 inch to each measurement for seam allowance. Cut two rectangles of denim to this size.

2 Create the Envelope Closure

On one long edge of each rectangle, fold and press 1/2 inch, then another 1/2 inch. Stitch this hem in place.

3 Assemble

Place rectangles right sides together. Sew around three sides (leave the hemmed edges unsewn). Turn right side out and insert pillow.

Tips & Tricks

Color Coordination

Mix different washes of denim for visual interest. Dark indigo with medium blue creates beautiful contrast.

Pocket Utilization

Don't discard the pockets! Use them as patches, mini pouches, or decorative elements on your projects.

Fringe Details

Cut fringe along raw edges for a bohemian look. It's especially effective on bag handles and hems.

Machine Settings

Use a denim/jeans needle in your sewing machine. Lengthen your stitch slightly for thicker layers.
